L'ultima sfida marittima / The last maritime challenge

This part of the journey is less intense but more relaxing and I’ve spent time with some good travel friends and explored the beaches in the North of Brazil. The beautiful long beaches on the warm clear water of the Atlantic Ocean are fringed with coconut palms. I also met my elder brother for the first time in almost five hundred days. I’m enjoying the last weeks of South American summer before returning to the cold European winter. If everything goes well and the merchant ship doesn’t change it’s route at the last moment, as it happened before, I should be leaving for Europe on 9th February from the port of Natal. So this extroardinary experience is coming to an end because when I reach Europe my travelling journey may finish at any moment. My goal is to complete a round-the-world trip reaching China, where I was in May 2012. I honestly don’t know whether this will be possible in my current situation. I chose to start travelling with loose plans to see whether it was possible to travel through so many countries by getting the visas one at a time at the borders or at embassies in foreign countries. This journey wasn’t planned on the basis of it feasibility and chance and events that arose on the way played an important role.

Once landed in Spain I will somehow try to reach Germany where I will take my chances and try to get a Russian and a Chinese visa. The idea is to reach Moscow and then take the Trans-Siberian train through Mongolia and all the way to Beijing. The main difficulty may be getting the visas, I have to find out if the embassies in Germany grant visas to foreigners without residence. I’ve been told that the Chinese embassy in Russia doesn’t grant visas to people in my situation. I have doubts as to whether this is true because so far I’ve always been able to get it in Asia so this information may be once again wrong. So I can only try getting it in Germany or in Russia. Of course, the safe option would be to go to Italy where I wouldn’t have any problem getting any type of visa but I’m honestly not interested in this easy way. I’m ready to deal with  whatever happens, including returning to Italy without making it to China because I either get there my way or else nevermind.  First of all let’s see if there are any unpleasent surprises with the merchant ship that would cause me to stay in Brazil for an extra month and wait for the next ship. Not that this would bother me.

Mi piacerebbe moltissimo sapere come sei riuscito a farlo tu. Ti ringrazierò molto se mi rispondi su la mia e-mail danielvierarivas(at)gmail.com Grazie in anticipo e saluti da uno spagnolo a Roma.
